Diverse Books in the Classroom with a Culturally Responsive Teaching Approach
Presented by Vanessa Arellano, kindergarten teacher at Fred L. Wilson Elementary, NC

Our students are diverse, our communities are diverse, our world is diverse, but what are we teaching our students? We need to equip our teachers with the tools necessary to show, support, and advocate for diversity inside and outside the classroom. We all agree that reading is key to education but what are our students reading? In this session, I will talk about texts and how to diversify them through a culturally responsive teaching approach. I will give you some tips, tools, and examples on how to diversify your classroom starting with literacy!
